Program Details
The Communication Studies program includes a combination of fully face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses. Delivery method depends on the demands of the specific course content. Combining delivery methods gives our students more flexibility to work their studies into their busy lives. Plus, they gain more experience with written and online communication.
Schedule
- One evening per week, with occasional Saturday elective options
- Cohorts meet on the Bethel University campus
- Cohorts begin in the fall and the spring
- Nine core classes and your choice of 6 communication electives

Coursework
Through all courses, students develop critical thinking skills to analyze and navigate our increasingly complex and message-saturated society. Our graduates also leave prepared with the theoretical and academic background necessary to pursue further education in the communication discipline.

Our B.A. in Communication Studies is unique among adult higher education programs in that it offers some flexibility to select electives that are most interesting and useful for each student. While Family Communication and Gender Communication might appeal to some, others may choose Production of Digital Media or Computer Mediated Communication.
Assessment
All of our courses use a variety of assessment methods to accommodate for different learning styles and to hone communication skills in all of the formats needed in the modern marketplaceāindividual presentations, group presentations, online discussion, papers, small group work, and creative projects.
